The history of Hotel Col di Lana in Trentino, Italy

Pordoi Pass is world-famous.
It's past is reminiscent of events and famous people who shaped in a significant way the life and traditions of these valleys.

During the First World War, it was a theatre of violence, where the Italian and the Austrian armies clashed in cruel battles.
To commemorate these historical events, a memorial was built on the pass itself and opened to visitors in 1959.

Tita Piaz ("the devil of Dolomites") can be considered (beside a writer and a politician) as the promoter of the acrobatic alpinism and a pioneer of the history of alpinism.
There are a lot of mountain ways due to him, as well as the hotel Col di Lana, which was built at the beginning of the past century.
The Giro d’Italia (italian byke tour) is indelebly connected to these places and to the bends of the Dolomiti road (SS 48).
A monument of the ladin sculptor Lorenz is there to celebrate the famous byker Fausto Coppi.
To visit Pordoi Pass today it is still like having a full immersion in history and landscape beauty.
